What is a Visa Approval Letter for Vietnam?

A Visa Approval Letter (VOA) for Vietnam is an official document issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department that allows travelers to obtain a visa on arrival at an international airport in Vietnam. It's different from an eVisa.

Here’s how it works:

What It Is:

  • It’s a pre-approved document stating that you are allowed to receive a visa at the airport.

How It’s Used:

  1. Apply online
  2. Receive the approval letter by email

Print the letter and bring it along with:

    • Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
    • Passport photos (typically 4x6 cm)
    • Visa application form (often provided at the airport)
    • Stamping fee in cash (USD)
  3. Present all documents at the Visa on Arrival counter at the airport (in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, etc.).
  4. Receive your visa and enter the country.

Important Notes:

  • This is only valid for air travel (not for land or sea entries).
  • It's not a visa by itself — it allows you to get the visa upon arrival.
  • It's commonly used for tourist or business visas
