🇰🇪 Kenya eTA Types

1. Tourist eTA

  • Purpose: Leisure, sightseeing, wildlife safaris, beach vacations.
  • Validity: Single-entry, up to 90 days.
  • Requirements: Passport (valid ≥6 months), return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation or invitation letter 

2. Business eTA

  • Purpose: Meetings, conferences, negotiations (not for paid employment).
  • Validity: Single-entry, up to 90 days.
  • Requirements: Passport, travel itinerary, proof of accommodation, business invitation letter/company documentation

3. Transit eTA

  • Purpose: Leaving the airport for a short stay during a layover.
  • Validity: Single-entry, up to 72 hours.
  • Requirements: Passport, onward ticket; only required if exiting the transit area 

4. East Africa Tourist eTA (Regional)

  • Purpose: Tourism across Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda under a unified permit.
  • Validity: Single-entry, typically up to 90 days.
  • Requirements: Same as the tourist eTA, with flexibility across East African Community (EAC) border crossings 

🧾 Key Details

  • Application Window: Can apply up to 90 days before travel; must be submitted at least 3 days prior 
  • Processing Time: Typically 3–5 business days; expedited options available .

    Fee: Around USD 32.50–35, varying slightly with processing speed 

    Exemptions: Exempt for:

    • Citizens and residents of Kenya
    • Nationals of EAC countries (Burundi, DRC, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda)
    • Official/diplomatic passport holders
    • Transit passengers staying inside the airport

  4. Pay the fee and allow 3+ business days for processing (or opt for urgent service).
  5. Print or download your eTA; present it alongside your travel documents on arrival.
