About the Electronic Visa for Brazil
Effective April 10, 2025, Brazil has reinstated visa requirements for citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia. Travelers from these countries must now obtain an Electronic Visitor Visa (eVisa) prior to entering Brazil for tourism or business purposes. This policy change ends the visa waiver that had been in place since 2019.
Overview of the Brazil eVisa
The Brazil eVisa is an electronic travel authorization that permits eligible travelers to enter Brazil for short-term stays. It is designed to streamline the visa application process by allowing applicants to apply online without visiting a consulate or embassy.
Key Details:
- Eligible Nationalities: Citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia.
- Purpose of Travel: Tourism, business, transit, or participation in cultural/sporting events.
- Validity: 10 years from the date of issuance.
- Maximum Stay: Up to 90 days per year.
Important Considerations
- Processing Time: While the average processing time is five business days, it’s advisable to apply at least two months before your intended travel date to account for any potential delays or additional documentation requests.
- Validity and Stay Duration: The eVisa is valid for 10 years, allowing multiple entries, with a maximum stay of 90 days per year.
- Transit Passengers: If you are transiting through Brazil and do not leave the international transit area of the airport, a visa is typically not required.
- Existing Valid Visas: Travelers who possess a valid physical visa issued before April 10, 2025, do not need to apply for an eVisa until their current visa expires.
