How to Use the Virtual APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC)

The Virtual ABTC (vABTC) is a digital version of the APEC Business Travel Card that allows eligible travelers to access the same benefits—without needing to carry a physical card. It’s fast, secure, and easy to use on your phone.

Step 1: Make Sure You're Eligible

To use the Virtual ABTC, you must:

Be approved for an APEC Business Travel Card
Be a citizen of a participating economy that supports the vABTC
Have received notification that your card is available digitally

🔔 Note: U.S. citizens currently receive only a physical ABTC—they are not eligible for the virtual version at this time.

📱 Step 2: Download the APEC vABTC App

Most participating economies use the official APEC Business Mobility Group (BMG) mobile app, available on iOS and Android.

Go to the App Store or Google Play
Search for “APEC vABTC”
Download and install the app

Step 3: Log In to Access Your Card

You’ll receive instructions from your issuing authority (usually by email) with:

A unique access code or login credentials
Steps to verify your identity

Follow these to activate and access your digital card securely in the app.

Step 4: Use the Virtual ABTC When Traveling

When arriving at an airport in a participating APEC economy:

Open the app and display your Virtual ABTC
Present it alongside your passport at immigration
Use the APEC fast-track lane where available

Step 5: Keep It Updated

The virtual card is automatically updated if:

You’re approved for additional economies
Your passport or information changes
The card is renewed
