Its my first time applying for a passport, can I mail in my application?

If it’s your first time applying for a U.S. passport, you cannot mail in your application. You are required to appear in person at an authorized passport acceptance facility. These include:

  • Certain post offices
  • County or city clerk’s offices
  • Some public libraries or courthouses

Consider making an appointment, especially if you’re visiting a post office—many require it.

In your workflow with us, you must upload scans of your documents for review. We must receive these scans two business days prior to your acceptance office appointment so our experts can make sure your appointment goes smoothly.

Use the State Department’s Passport Acceptance Facility Search to find one near you.
