Can I extend my China visa?

If You Are In China

Foreign nationals currently in China may apply to extend their visa by visiting the Exit and Entry Administration (EEA) office of the Public Security Bureau (PSB) in the city where they are staying. Applications should be submitted at least 7 days before the existing visa expires.

Who Is Eligible for a Visa Extension?

Individuals holding the following visa types may be eligible to apply:

  • Tourist (L)
  • Business (M)
  • Family visit (Q or S)
  • Student (X)

Please note that extensions are not guaranteed and are subject to review based on visa type, reason for extension, and the supporting documentation provided.

If You Are Not in China

Once a China visa is issued, it cannot be extended from outside the country. However, if your current visa is within six months of expiring, you may apply for a new visa instead.

Keep in mind:

  • A new visa replaces your current one; it does not extend its validity.
  • You must submit a complete and updated application, including all required documentation.
