What do I do if staying beyond 30 days?

If you intend to stay in Sri Lanka beyond the 30 days permitted under the standard ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization), you must apply for an extension through the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration.


Options for Extending Stay Beyond 30 Days

1. Apply for an Extension of the ETA

  • Initial ETA validity: 30 days from the date of arrival.
  • Extension eligibility: You can extend your stay up to 6 months in total, granted in two consecutive 90-day increments (30-day stay + 90 + 90).

    Application process:

    • Online via the official portal: https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk
    • In-person: Visit the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo.
  • Documents typically required:
    • Passport (valid for at least 6 more months)
    • Copy of the ETA approval
    • Completed extension application form
    • Proof of funds or sponsor
    • Justification for extension (especially for business stays)
    • Recent passport-size photograph
    • Payment of the applicable fee

2. For Business Visitors:

  • You may also apply for a business visa extension, which may require:
    • Updated invitation letter from the Sri Lankan host company
    • Details of the ongoing business activities
    • Letter of request from your employer (if applicable)
