Does a U.S. passport holder need a visa for Thailand?

As of May 2025, U.S. passport holders do not need a visa to enter Thailand for tourism purposes. Thailand allows visa-free entry for U.S. citizens for stays of up to 60 days. This extension from the previous 30-day allowance was implemented on July 15, 2024.

Requirements for Visa-Free Entry

To enter Thailand without a visa, ensure you meet the following conditions:

  • Passport Validity: Your U.S. passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned arrival date in Thailand.

  • Proof of Onward Travel: You should have a return or onward ticket showing departure from Thailand within 60 days of entry.

  • Proof of Funds: Carry evidence of sufficient funds, typically 20,000 baht (approximately $600) per person or 40,000 baht (approximately $1,200) per family.

  • Completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC): Since May 1, 2025, all travelers must submit the TDAC online at least 3 days before arrival. This replaces the paper TM6 form and collects personal, travel, and health information.
