How long is Global Entry valid for?

Global Entry is a trusted traveler program managed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that offers expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. It’s a favorite among frequent international travelers who want to save time at passport control, and one common question is: How long does Global Entry last?

Validity Period

⏰ Once approved, Global Entry is valid for five years.

The five-year period begins from the date of your next birthday following the date of approval, not the exact date of enrollment or activation. This means that depending on when you’re approved in relation to your birthday, your membership could effectively last slightly longer than five calendar years.

When to Renew

T📤 ravelers can begin the renewal process up to one year before their Global Entry membership expires. CBP encourages early renewal, as the process may include a new background check and, in some cases, another interview.

After submitting your renewal application:

  • You may be conditionally approved quickly, or
  • You might remain in pending review for several weeks or months.

If your membership expires while your renewal is pending, CBP typically allows a grace period of 24 months during which you can still use your Global Entry benefits.

🛠️ How to Check Your Expiration Date

You can check your Global Entry expiration date by logging into your Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account at ttp.dhs.gov. Your expiration date will be listed under your program details.

💡 Tips

  • Set a calendar reminder a year before your expiration to begin the renewal process early.
  • Keep your passport information up to date in your TTP account, especially after a passport renewal.

🔥 Global Entry is valid for five years, but staying ahead of the renewal timeline ensures you continue enjoying stress-free reentry into the U.S. without interruption.
